the holstentor is a late brick gothic city gate and part of the medieval fortifications of lübeck. it consists of two round towers at the north and the south side with an arched entranceway between them. the building is four stories high. today it is considered a major landmark of lübeck. it was erected between 1464 and 1478. because the holstentor was sinking into the ground, it was in danger of collapse. in 1863 the lowest arrow slits were found 50 cm under the ground and the tendency of the whole gate was risky. until 1871 one tried to save it, but it still caved in. In 1933/34 the security precautions were successful, but the architecture of the gate was altered thereby. since 1950 the holstentor is a museum about city history.

Don't see what you have not done, but all that you have. If you are reading this, then you have done something for me and you will never know how much that means.

it is the main gate, we will go through and visit also inside, the musuem . but first of all i thought we should start slowly. a walk in the park. sit down on bench next to a nice pond. to feed some swans. with all the flowers round us. but the swans are big. you have to be careful some may bite. in the morning the parks are empty, just some joggers passing by or some people taking out their dogs. maybe because of the feeding you are becoming hungry too. which kind of restaurant would you prefer? chinese, italien or maybe something german? there are some nice next to the promenade. we can have a table close to the river here....
:iconreachmehere:
but before i made this pic i had to stop in an icecream parlor^^
history with icecream fits as well
:iconelizablack:
hm....i'd love that. I can finally see a swan up close..they are so beautiful ^.^
I'd like to go in the morning.....where will we watch the sun rise? It's always an amazing sight to see.
Hmmm...I think I would like to try something german...maybe you could help me choose what to order.
I love the smell of water and when light reflects off of it. I will deffinitly enjoy our time together....

yes, the early morning is perfect. especially the of the twilight. when everything is so quiet around us. no whisper, no bird singing. silence. then the sun comes up with its golden glare. and all birds, like it was a starting shot, start to sing at once. its still a bit cold, but the warm rays touch you very soon. the the swan and ducks in the pond are very hungry, after the long night. they will take all your bread.

well, for lunch maybe a schnitzel then. that is typically german. a nicer thin slice of veal coated in breadcrumbs and fried. served with potatoes and a salad. or maybe fish. fits to the river. very fresh, fished this morning. trout is eaten very often.
sitting next to the water. watch some ships passing by. slights waves against the pier. sparrows landing on your shoulder. hungry either, what else. and when you turn your head you can see the storefronts of the old houses. a sunny day, not too hot...

after the meal would you like to go shopping or directly back in time through the narrow streets, into the gangways and backyards with its small houses ?
:iconelizablack:
ohhh it sounds lovely

hmm..I think fish....I do love fish.

I'd laugh at the sparrows and turn to look at them. Feeling the mist off the water and the sun on my face.

Hmmm...I'm not sure which one I would enjoy more...

we have enough time for everything. never need to hurry. i noticed the some of the old small backyard-houses are for rent as holiday-flats. so one would be for you, that you can fully enjoy the oldtown. so lets go shopping first. through the little shops, offering their special things, all handmade. you shall have enough souvenirs to take home, that you can always remember the days when you here. maybe a nice leather bag, a scarve, shoes of course :giggle: and jewelry. we will find the right things for you and next day well walk the old paths...
